How to Play Hangman

A classic word guessing game that tests your vocabulary and deduction skills. Try to guess the hidden word one letter at a time before the hangman is complete!

Game Rules

  1. A secret word is chosen and displayed as a row of underscores, representing each letter.
  2. Guess one letter at a time by clicking on the keyboard or typing on your keyboard.
  3. If your guess is correct, all instances of that letter appear in the word.
  4. If your guess is wrong, one part of the hangman figure is drawn.
  5. You win by revealing the complete word before the hangman is fully drawn.
  6. You lose if the hangman figure is completed (usually after 6 incorrect guesses).

Game Features

  • Hint Button: Need help? Use the hint button to reveal a letter. You can use up to 3 hints per game.
  • Play Again: Start a new game with a different word after winning or losing.
  • Theme-Based Words: Words are organized by themes like Movies, Animals, and more.
  • Keyboard Support: Use your physical keyboard or the on-screen keyboard to make guesses.

Tips for Word Selection

If you're creating your own hangman game, here are some tips for choosing challenging words:

  • Use uncommon letters: Words with J, Z, Q, X, or K are harder to guess.
  • Choose words with repeated letters: Like "bubble" or "Mississippi" - if players don't guess the repeated letter, they'll struggle to solve the word.
  • Avoid words with many vowels: Players often guess vowels first, so words like "lynx" with few vowels are more challenging.
  • Keep words at moderate length: Words between 6-8 letters provide a good balance of challenge and fairness.
